Now in its 162nd year, the California State Fair returns to Sacramento for a fun- and sun-filled 17 days. Starting this Friday, July 10 and running through Sunday, July 26, the fair promises all the exhibits, animals, carnival games, rides and, of course, delicious food you’ve come to expect. Special to this year’s fair are the nightly Toyota Concert Series and other live entertainment, the Best of California Brewfest, wine tasting, horse racing and other sporting events. After the day’s parades and barbecues, then come the fireworks. And in Sacramento, the place where the fireworks shine brightest is Cal Expo. While they can be seen for quite a distance, the best place to see the fireworks display is at Cal Expo’s Miller Lite Grandstand. Gates open at 6pm, with the fireworks beginning around 9:30pm. If you’re feeling extra patriotic this 4th of July, you’re in luck if you live in East Sac. First, the River Park Neighborhood Association will hold its annual Fourth of July Festival at Glenn Hall Park. Starting at 10am, the Firecracker antique car parade and kids bike parade wind their way through the neighborhood to the park. The festival includes games, races, art displays, live music and refreshments. Or you can get yourself into the red, white and blue mood with the East Sacramento Fourth of July parade, which begins at 11am on the corner of 41st and M Streets. With this parade, many of the people that come to watch end up walking along with the participants. It’s a great show of East Sac neighborhood pride and togetherness as well as a way to celebrate our nation’s freedoms.  ...
