The River Park Tree Canopy Project is ready to start planting at Glenn Hall Park. And they need help from volunteers to help them do so. If you would like to help, meet up with project organizers in the Glenn Hall parking lot at 9am this Saturday, November 14. The workday is expected to continue until around 12noon. This coming Saturday, August 29, bring the entire family to Glenn Hall Park to hang out with your neighbors, enjoy free popcorn and watch a movie under the stars at this year’s Screen on the Green. Starting at sunset (around 8:15pm), the animated superhero movie “Big Hero 6” will be featured. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, and bring blankets, lawn chairs, jackets and other snacks to make the evening as comfortable and fun as it can be. For nearly 40 years, the Susan B. Anthony 5K has been the premier “little” women’s only run in California–typically, fewer than 1000 runners participate. It comes back this Saturday, August 8 at Glenn Hall Park. The race begins at 8:30am, preceded at 8am by the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Kids’ 1/2 Miler. Ideal for beginners and competitive runners alike, the main course winds its way through the River Park neighborhood and back around to the park for after-race refreshments and the awards ceremony. Pops in the Park concludes this Saturday, June 27, at Glenn Hall Park. The Count will take the stage at 6pm to perform their unique blend of rock and R&B. Councilmember Jeff Harris, who is responsible for bringing the concert series back this year, will be the evening’s emcee. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and get to the park early to get the best spot to view the show. Proceeds from food, beer and wine sales will go to fund East Sac neighborhood improvement projects throughout the year. Otherwise, admission is free. Save the date for the 2015 Pops in the Park concert series! On June 6th Tom Rigney and Flambeau will kick off the summer concerts in East Portal Park. This Saturday, August 23, volunteers are needed from 9am-12noon to help keep Glenn Hall Park looking neat and tidy. Tasks will include pruning hedges, weeding and planting flowerbeds.
