I’ve been busy with helping clients and have neglected my blog as of recently. The Run to Feed the Hungry event can’t be neglected though! Below is everything you need to know about the event (or at least links to everything). The new item of note for this year is that Waste collection for homes in the River Park Neighborhood and part of the East Sac Neighborhood will occur on Friday, November 28th 2019 instead of Thursday, November 27, 2019. This year, the Solid Waste Team will be collecting garbage, recycle and containerized yard waste on Friday in neighborhoods where access is usually blocked during the race closures. Collection will remain on the Thursday schedule for areas outside of designated area. 22nd Annual Run to Feed the Hungry

Posted by on Nov 20, 2015 in East Sac, Events, Run to Feed the Hungry | 0 comments

At a time when we get to celebrate how much we have, it only makes sense to show some gratitude by helping others who are less fortunate. That is the philosophy behind the Run to Feed the Hungry 5K and 10K marathon, currently the country’s largest Thanksgiving Day run. At the 22nd annual event, more than 30,000 participants are expected to arrive at the starting line near the CSUS entrance. The run starts at 8:15am, rain or shine, and will wind its way through the lovely tree-lined streets of East Sac.  If you’re interested in joining, or would like more information on street closures, go to...

Run to Feed the Hungry 2014

When it first began in 1994, the Run to Feed the Hungry had 796 participants. This Thanksgiving Day, nearly 30,000 people are expected to attend. Such numbers have made the Run to Feed the Hungry not only the largest fun run in Sacramento, but the largest fun run in the entire US. Rain or shine, both the 10K run and 5K run/walk will begin Thursday morning just outside the entrance of Sacramento State. (Just keep an eye out for the huge inflatable turkey.) From there, the routes will go along some of the loveliest tree-lined streets in East Sac. All net proceeds from the run go to support Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services, which provides numerous services throughout the year—food, clothing, shelter, job placement, etc.—to the disadvantaged in our area. To register, double check the route and find any other information on the run, go to www.runtofeedthehungry.com.   If you live on the actual route of the run, you have special trash instructions for Thanksgiving day. As per the City of Sacramento Office of Media & Communication:   Garbage service alert postcards are being sent to all 600 homes on the 5K and 10K route for the 2014 Run To Feed The Hungry. We are asking customers on the route to put their containers out the night before Thanksgiving or by 5 a.m Thanksgiving morning. Thursday November 27th. The Recycling and Solid Waste Division will begin collection at 5 a.m. so the City can service properties on the race route before the streets are closed. This service alert is only for the 600 homes on the route. If there are any questions, please contact the Recycling & Solid Waste Division at...

Run To Feed The Hungry happens every Thanksgiving day and it’s something that you shouldn’t miss if your are in East Sac (and it’s hard to miss). 30,000 runners/walkers take over East Sac for Thanksgiving morning and it’s quite an event to get out and watch. The other side of the event is that if you live here and you need to drive anywhere, you will have to be very strategic about your escape plan. Here is the link to their web site and at the bottom it has links to a Map and Exit Plan: http://runtofeedthehungry.com/logistics And this is the link to the Exit Plans: http://runtofeedthehungry.com/pdfs/2010exitplan.pdf This gets posted and sent out in various ways, and I just got the posting in the Inside East Sacramento newspaper Wednesday. Hopefully you won’t be surprised if you are here and need to run to get cranberries Thanksgiving morning and find the roads blocked...
