38th Street Blood Drive Updates

Posted by on Sep 3, 2020 in East Sac, Volunteer | 0 comments

We are two weeks away from what would have been the next 38th Street Blood Drive but of course, COVID-19 has put a wrinkle into everyones plans. I’ll be making my regular blood donation at the downtown Vitalant location instead of enjoying hanging with East Sac neighbors and enjoying a little BBQ and good conversations around my donation. Alice and Pat, the wonderful hosts of the 38th Street blood drive encourage you to do the same.   Here is the email I received form them with the update:   Greetings Neighbors and Friends, Well, it’s what you have probably assumed already.  We will not be able to host our annual 38th Street blood drive this year due to the challenges of COVID-19.  We do hope to resume our drive in 2021.  In the meantime, please consider helping to save lives by making a blood donation at a Vitalant (formerly BloodSource) center or blood drive, where social distancing can effectively occur.  Below are some alternate locations to donate blood.   COVID-19 Antibody Testing – A COVID-19 antibody test is performed on all donations allowing Vitalant to identify donors who may be able to donate convalescent plasma to help patients fighting COVID-19. For more information: https://www.vitalant.org/antibodytest.   VITALANT BLOOD CENTERS Find a convenient Vitalant donation center at Vitalant Donor Center locations. Scroll down and choose California and then search for a city. To make an appointment book online or call Vitalant at 866-822-5663.   SACRAMENTO COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE Vitalant will be hosting a community blood drive at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento on Thursday, September 3 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Located at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel – 1230 J St., Sacramento.  To comply with social distancing practices, appointments are encouraged and we’re asking blood donors to make an appointment –  Click Here to Schedule an Appointment. Walk-ins will be accommodated if space allows.   PREPARE FOR YOUR DONATION Vitalant requires all donors to wear face coverings. Donors will be required to bring their own cloth-based mask or face covering.   Please bring a photo I.D.   Eat well and drink plenty of water prior to donation.   16 year olds must have a signed Vitalant parental consent form.   For parental consent forms go to parental consent forms.   Learn more about Vitalant’s response to COVID-19: www.vitalant.org/coronavirus   For eligibility questions or to schedule an appointment contact: Vitalant 866-822-5663. As always, we do this in honor of my wonderful mom, Rose Mary Lonczak.   We look forward to seeing you next year. Warm Regards, Alice and Pat...

Posted by on Sep 4, 2018 in East Sac, Fab 40's, Volunteer | 0 comments

The amazing McAuliffe family is holding their 10th Annual Blood Drive on Monday September 17th. I’ve already booked my time for giving blood and I look forward to seeing many of my neighbors there. Below is the email they sent me because hearing about the event in their words is better than me trying to paraphrase it.   Dear Friends and Neighbors, We like to think the 38th Street Blood Drive is a party, and we hope you’ll consider joining us.  We’ll have tents and tables on the front lawn, and two bloodmobiles parked on the street.  As usual, we’ll be grilling sausages and pouring our favorite beverages. Our tenth annual Blood Drive occurs Monday, September 17  from 3:00-7:00.  To schedule an appointment, please go to bloodsource.org/drives and enter location code M597.  If you prefer, please call us at 451-5507 or email alicemcauliffe12@gmail.com with your preferred time and I’ll schedule an appointment for you.  If you have any friends who would like to donate, we’d be happy to schedule them as well.  Anyone 17 or older can donate.  Those who are 16 can donate with parental permission, using a form available on the bloodsource.org website.  Please remember to bring a photo id and drink plenty of fluids beforehand.  If you have any questions about eligibility, please call 800-995-4420 and ask for the “Nurse of the Day”.  If possible, please make an appointment so we have no gridlock and we know how many folks to expect.  We look forward to seeing you and having a good time. Year after year, you keep coming back, even on 100 degree days.  We are honored and touched that  you continue to support this very worthwhile cause.  We do this in memory of my wonderful mom, Rosemary Lonczak, who lived years longer as a result of numerous blood transfusions. Sincerely, Alice and Pat...

Alice McAuliffe and her husband Pat will be hosting their 8th Annual Blood Drive outside their home at 1141 38th Street complete with refreshments and East Sac neighborhood camaraderie. Apparently this is the only blood drive in Sacramento that is sponsored by a neighborhood (go East Sac!). On Thursday, July 21st from 3 to 7pm, two bloodmobiles from BloodSource will be taking donations. This year, the goal is to collect 55 pints of blood to help patients and hospitals during the busy summer months. You can schedule an appointment at www.bloodsource.org/drives to schedule on line. The location code of the drive is M597.  For more information or to schedule in person you can call Alice directly at (916) 451-5507. I regularly give blood at the downtown BloodSource location at 16th and Q but this will be my 3rd year of joining my neighbors in the local blood drive. I’ve already set up my appointment to go and give blood and I hope to see a lot of you there! The refreshments at Alice and Pat’s house are much better than what you get...
