In Germany and Austria, the beginning of the Christmas season is traditionally ushered in with a Christmas Market in the town square. There are food and drinks, live music, dancing and shopping. This coming weekend, December 6 and 7, the 17th Annual Christkindlmarkt recreates that festive experience at the Sacramento Turn Verein.
Attendees can expect a full range of German crafts, entertainment and refreshments, including mulled wine (Gluhwein), Lebkuchen and Magenbrot (traditional baked treats), beer, sausages and cakes. And of course, Santa Claus will be making the rounds. The event runs from 10am-6pm on Saturday, 11am-5pm on Sunday.
